31 December no longer a banking day

It is noted that, following a decision by the Central Bank of Iceland, 31 December will no longer be a banking day. Because of this, employers intending to pay premiums to Gildi on 31 December need to bring the payment forward by one day and pay on 30 December.

In this connection, please note the following:

• Claims due to be paid in 2025 must have a due date no later than Tuesday 30 December.
• All payments relating to 2025 must be completed by the end of the day on 30 December.
• The large-value payment system will be closed on 31 December.

Since 31 December will not be a banking day, all payments made that day will be posted on 2 January 2026. This will unavoidably result in interest being charged on the claim!
